Pumpkinvine Bike Ride on Saturday: June 21

Posted by Henry Scott on June 17, 2008

The annual Pumpkinvine Bike Ride is coming up in just a few days. My wife and I participated in this a couple of years ago and it was wonderful — excellent SAG stops! There are 15, 22, 42, 64 and-102 Mile-Routes starting in Goshen (actually, the 15-mile ride starts in Shipshewana).

Notably, this ride is associated with efforts to continue the process of connecting Goshen, Middlebury and Shipshewana by a bicycle trail.

An Online Regional Bike Map for Michiana

Posted by Henry Scott on June 17, 2008

Adam Bee has developed a great Michiana Bike Map using Google Maps.  It is still in an early phase, but this is a very important step to something that will be a huge benefit to the bike community.  Here’s the URL: http://michianabikemap.googlepages.com/index.html.  Check it out!

Michiana: A “Bicycle Friendly Community”?

Posted by Henry Scott on June 17, 2008

The League of American Bicyclists has a program to designate Bicycle Friendly Communities, and Danny Graber is organizing local cyclists to explore the possibility of Michiana becoming such a community.

Specifically, there are “Five E’s” that communities must address to be considered: Engineering, Education, Encouragement, Enforcement and Evaluation & Planning. After a great Bike to Work Week 6/2-6/6, and the city’s commitment to add additional bike lanes we’re off to a good start!

There will be an organizational meeting on the IUSB campus today (6/17) to throw some ideas around. Please get in touch if you’d like to get involved!
