Sights and scenery of St. Joseph County

With summer in full swing I am constantly reminded why bicycling is the best way to enjoy the sights and scenery of St. Joseph County. On a ride last week I snapped a few pics of the eye-catching things that I encounter on my commutes to work.

I have always loved the look of rolled hay.

This is something you don’t see all of the time but here they are a few camels about a half mile west of 23 on New road.

Call for Cyclist Safety Education in Today’s Michiana Point of View

Portage Ave. Bike/Ped Path Nears Completion

The northwest side of South Bend is quickly becoming more bicycle friendly, and auto friendly at the same time. Portage Avenue from Lathrop to Cleveland is being rebuilt. The awkward intersection for motorists at Lathrop, Portage, Highland Cemetery and Riverside Cemetery has been replaced by a traffic circle. Also, a frustrating set of streets at Portage, Council Oak, Ribourd, and Boland have been replaced by a circle.

Wisely, the city has included a bike/ped infrastructure in this improvement. The leg from Boland northward has only just started, but the leg southward is complete. Congratulations to the planners for such a well designed transportation enhancement.
