Portage Ave. Bike/Ped Path Nears Completion
Posted by Paul Taylor on July 3, 2008
The northwest side of South Bend is quickly becoming more bicycle friendly, and auto friendly at the same time. Portage Avenue from Lathrop to Cleveland is being rebuilt. The awkward intersection for motorists at Lathrop, Portage, Highland Cemetery and Riverside Cemetery has been replaced by a traffic circle. Also, a frustrating set of streets at Portage, Council Oak, Ribourd, and Boland have been replaced by a circle.
Wisely, the city has included a bike/ped infrastructure in this improvement. The leg from Boland northward has only just started, but the leg southward is complete. Congratulations to the planners for such a well designed transportation enhancement.

I have always loved the look of rolled hay.
This is something you don’t see all of the time but here they are a few camels about a half mile west of 23 on New road.
