Planning Begins for South Bend Bike Station

Posted by Jeff Nixa on July 7, 2008

An informational meeting on plans for a South Bend bicycle station is set for Friday, August 8th at 7am, at the S. Bend Chocolate Cafe. The Michiana Bike Coalition will partner with local city and business interests to establish a bike station (bicycle transit center) serving the practical needs of bike commuters, visitors and tourists.

Bike station services include: secure bike parking, warm showers, lockers, bathrooms, on-duty bike mechanics, bike accessories, bike sharing, free air and self-repair stands. It would serve as a home for bike commuters who need a break from traffic or weather with a cafe, water, communication board/links for bike events. Out-of-town visitors would find bike, helmet and lock rentals, bike maps and tours.
