Nasty Road Rage Incident in LA

Posted by Adam Bee on July 9, 2008

This isn’t local at all, but I found it to be a useful read: The LAist reports
“Road Rage Motorist vs. Cyclists on Mandeville Canyon Road”
.

WARNING: Photos of mangled cyclists and one bloody car are at the link.

The short version is that a doctor was apparently outraged that two (experienced) cyclists were riding on his road, so he swerved in front of the two and slammed on his brakes, seriously injuring both. One of the wounded dragged himself to the front of the driver’s car to prevent him from leaving the scene. The driver was arrested at the scene for felony criminal assault.

Personally, it seems to me that anything less than jail time and revoking his medical license would be a travesty. I have to wonder if he would have gotten off lighter if the cyclists had been killed instead of just severely injured.

Stay safe out there!

Update: The LA Times has the story here.

Darden Road Bike/Ped Sidepath is under construction

Posted by Paul Taylor on July 9, 2008

Several years ago, St. Joseph county restored the historic Darden Road bridge, and built a short bike/ped path across it. That was Phase-1.

Now, Phase-2 is underway. The path is being extended to IN-933. This is approximately .8 miles: not very impressive, I know.  But, it is in keeping with the modern practice of adding side-paths or sidewalks or  bike lanes with new road/street construction.

It will create a bike-way to Christ The King church/elementary school, as well as shopping at North Village Mall and surrounding businesses and restaurants.

Next year, the Riverside Trail should be completed, which will close the gap, giving bikers and runners an off-road route from Angela/Riverside, all the way to Darden/IN-933: a distance of 3.1 miles.
