The Michiana Bike Coalition will hold a South Bend bike station information/planning meeting Friday morning, August 8th, 7-8am at the S. Bend Chocolate Cafe. 122 S. Michigan St, South Bend.
A “bike station” (or bicycle transit center) is a facility designed to serve the practical needs of bike commuters, city visitors and tourists. See http://bikestation.org/FAQS.asp. Info on the 24-hour facility at Millenium Park in downtown Chicago at http://www.chicagobikestation.com/.
Bike station services typically include some or all of the following: secure indoor bike parking, warm showers, lockers, bathrooms, on-duty bike mechanics, basic accessories, bike sharing, free air and self-repair stands. Visitors to South Bend would also find bike, helmet and lock rentals at the Station as well as bike maps and guided bike tours. A bike station is not a bike store and does not compete with local bike shops for the sale of bicycles or major accessories.
