New Downtown Housing Is Good for Michiana Cycling

Posted by Henry Scott on November 9, 2008

Although not specifically about bicycles, an article by Gene Stowe in Sunday’s Tribune is about the popularity of new near-downtown housing. Those interviewed for the article stress their desire to be centrally located, close to parks and able to walk to local attractions (the river, downtown, the farmer’s market, etc). I think this bodes well for our cycling advocacy efforts.

Cycling Bonanza in Sunday’s Tribune

Posted by Henry Scott on November 9, 2008

There were two articles about bicycle advocacy in today’s Tribune. One, by Joe Ditts and with comments from Paul Taylor, highlights the proposed legislative changes that are currently being discussed on Bike Michiana. It also covers the push to establish South Bend as a Bicycle Friendly Community and has comments from Danny Graber and Tom Price (assistant to Mayor Steve Luecke).

A separate article, attributed to “Tribune Staff Writer”, focuses on bike routes throughout the county. It features comments from Bill and Judy Lee and stresses the need for routes to get from town to town.

Winter Biking article in So. Bend Trib

Posted by Phil G-E on November 5, 2008

Joe Dits wrote the article Think before biking this winter that appears in today’s South Bend Tribune. It looks like a great article at first glance. Henry Scott, Adam Bee, and this writer are quoted in the article as well as other folks.

Fort Wayne’s Push for Infrastructure: Should Michiana Be Doing More?

Bike Coalition Seeks Grant Writers

Posted by Jeff Nixa on November 1, 2008

The Bike Michiana Coalition is seeking volunteer grant writers to explore funding sources for Coalition projects and campaigns.   The Coalition has a growing but unexplored list (29 to date) of potential grants and foundations to contact.

In Coalition tradition, the grant writers will likely work as a small but passionate team, toward the goal of building Coalition funds for our affiliated groups, projects, safety and media campaigns.  Assistance will be available from the Coalition president, treasurer and other members.

For more information, contact Jeff Nixa at wilson-nixa@sbcglobal.net

Like all Coalition board members and teams/leaders, the position will be a volunteer effort.
