From 2023 to 2024, MACOG collected readings of surface conditions of over 120 miles of the Crossway Trail network in St. Joseph, Elkhart, Marshall, and
Kosciusko counties. Data was collected via a “data bike”- an electric bicycle equipped with a rear-facing camera, an overhead 360 camera, and a smartphone that collected surface roughness data through internal sensors. The collected data was used to create a trail condition map and identify amenities such as water fountains and restrooms. Areas requiring repair are highlighted, with corresponding photos attached.
